♥ Realising...
I think it’s about time that I learn to take in some responsibility in regards of my family. I didn’t really notice mum & dad does until when they don’t do them. It wasn’t until an incident like today that it’d become clear to me how much they mean in this family.
Like usual, I got home from school in the afternoon, it’s Friday so Ben would be at North Shore until 8 pm. Using the remote of the garage, I let myself in. Everything was still piled up in there as I walked towards the entrance door. As soon as I swung the entrance door open I knew something I out of place… my bed room door is half opened. I have a habit of closing my bed room door before leaving the house even if it doesn’t have locks. I’m usually the first one to get home out of my family of 4, so to have something changed when I was the last person to be in the house was really eccentric. Then I remembered, mum had her operation today. I rushed in. And there she was, lying on my bed, her face twisted with pain & exhaustion. Her eyes flicked open and adjusted its position until they met mine. “Mum, you alright?” I asked nervously, I’ve never seen her like this. She nodded slowly, unable to talk. I bit my lower lip, her eyes flicked shut again as she inhaled gradually. I decided to leave her alone so she could rest. About 5 minutes later dad came home and strangely after seeing mum he went straight to his bed room. It turned out that he got sick and ended up regurgitating his breakfast & lunch today. I chose not to disturb either of them and went down stairs to watch DVD. By the way, because of the landscape sloping down, our house is 2 storeys going down instead of up.
After I finished 1 disc of anime, the house suddenly felt so cold… so quiet. Usually, I’d be able to hear foot steps from up stairs and some sizzling from mum’s cooking, but today up stairs was dead silence. I switched off the TV & tiptoed back up stairs. Everything was left lying around; the dishes, the leftovers on the dining table, dad’s brief case and some mails. When mum & don’t do these things, they’ll just be sitting around at the same spot without any attention. It was almost 6:30pm; I had to cook up at least something for dinner. To my disappointment, either of my parents felt like eating anything. Both of them felt that they’re going to regurgitate even when they don’t have anything to gag out from their empty stomach. I ended up chucking the 2 frozen pies from the freezer into the oven as my dinner, although I only managed to gobble down one. It was almost 8 by the time I’d finished eating, someone had to go pick up Ben. Without hesitating, dad jumped up from his bed and pace towards the front door… grabbing & taking a bite off the last pie. Well, that pie was wasted after all since he just threw it all out after I cooked Ben dumpling for his dinner. And then not long after dad, mum actually vomited as well even she didn’t eat a thing since this morning.
It was the first time for me to have both of my parents in such a poor health status, especially dad. I’d always thought he was a real tough man but it seems that even the toughest people on this planet all have their sick moments where they just look so fragile. For the first time I picked up their jobs out of my own will. Because if I don’t do them, no one else can and this house will just become a chaos sooner or later. For the first time, I discovered how to take on a responsibility… to take care of those who took care of me.
